Spend the day cycling past vineyards and sampling delicious wines.

The vineyards of Stellenbosch are world-renowned; people come here from far and wide to taste exquisite wines, and appreciate the peaceful surroundings. Unfortunately, most just see the scenery as a green blur flashing past their car window.

A cycling tour may sound like hard work, but the roads are pretty easy and you only need a moderate level of fitness. You cycle around 14 to 20km between farms (3 to 6 farms), with a stop f

DETAILED ITINERARY

Full day - 4 wine farms
Everyone gathers in central Cape Town, where you meet your group leader, and head out to the Lynedoch Eco Village in Stellenbosch.

After choosing your mountain bike, it's an easy peddle to the first stop - Spier Wine Estate. An outside table is set up for wine and cheese tasting, and you all sit around and take your first few sips of crisp whites and rounded reds.

From there it's on to Stellenbosch Hills for an unusual pairing - wine and biltong (a South African dried meat delicacy). This is sure to be a highlight, with the spiced meat really bringing out the flavours in the wine.

Back on the bikes prepare for the only real uphill in the ride, a long (and for some, slow) climb to the next farm, which is also the lunch stop. Take a well-deserved dip in the swimming pool, and sample a few more wines.

With a full stomach, and slight wine buzz, you'll probably be pleased to know that the road is all pretty much downhill from here. Freewheel past vineyards, on winding roads, to the last farm on the list. The final tasting is in a beautiful setting on green lawns, under the shade of old oak trees.
