A 7 day luxury Cape Winelands Tour with all the trimmings. Gourmet or gourmand - this is for you!
If you enjoy the finer things in life, you should really enjoy them in style. This 7 day luxury Cape Winelands Tour cuts no corners to bring you the most superb wining and dining experience of the famous Cape Winelands. Taste some of the best wines in the world at some of the most beautiful wine farms in the world, stay in magnificent country manor houses, see the patchwork of the vineyards from the air, and sip some bubbly on a tractor tour of sunny winelands countryside.
Day 1: Paarl Your limousine will collect you from Cape Town International Airport and you will be transferred to Pontac Manor in Paarl where you can freshen up and delight in gastronomic delights at Pontac Restaurant - coupled, of course, with the finest Cape wines.
Day 2: Wellington Start your Cape Winelands tour by descending to another world - the world of the wine cellar. Go on a guided tour and tasting of the world famous Nederburg cellars, followed by an exclusive lunch in the dining room of the historical manor house.
You then drive through vineyards, farm roads, hills and Cape country dales to the beautiful Wellington region – the origins of root stock cultivation in South Africa. Step back in time at your delightfully colonial overnight stop, Diemersfontein Wine and Country Estate. The farm itself has been around for quite some time, but wine-making is new here, with Diemersfontein recently scooping ABSA Top 10 award for its Pinotage. Winemaker Bertus Fourie will talk you through a tasting of their wines, followed by a light dinner on the veranda at the manor house.
Day 3: Franschhoek Your Cape Winelands tour continues as you drive on to Simondium, where you stop over at Plaisir de Merle - one of the oldest wine farms in the area. Taste their wines and soak up the serene ambience that continues to make this farm the popular haunt of many a wine-lover.
Franschhoek – French Huguenot descendants’ territory – is your next stop. La Motte, home to some classically elegant wines, is host to our first tasting, followed by lunch at the fabulous La Petite Ferme on the Franschhoek Pass. Gastronomes - brace yourselves! Franschhoek is equally respected for its wine and epicurean delights.
After lunch you drive towards the exquisite Banhoek Valley, where you can experience first-hand the contrast of the Cape’s Old World versus New World wines. Your first stop is Zorgvliet, a welcome new addition to the Winelands’ offerings. Check into Le Pommier Country Lodge next door then rest your legs and soak in a bathtub or take a refreshing swim. Dinner is at the valley’s historic Herenhuis (established 1692) – of course, all washed down with Cape wine.
Day 4: Cape Town You leave the vineyards to ripen and the oak barrels to mature for a day and head back for a brief city tour of Cape Town. The day begins with a ride in the cable car to tour Table Mountain. Wander around and marvel at the panoramic view as you take in the Indian and Atlantic Oceans through a telescope placed at the summit. Round off the morning’s activities with a leisurely lunch at Table Mountain’s Dizzy Dassie Restaurant.
You then head off to a shopper’s mecca, the V&A Waterfront. Your first port of call is Diamond South Africa. Put your R2 000 voucher to good use, then spend the remainder of your day at leisure – shopping or watching the yachts and crowds sail by, not forgetting the Waterfront’s colourful buskers and indigenous musicians. Reunite at the Waterfront Quay at sunset to board the Sapphire Dream for a decadent sunset cruise – complemented by wine and snacks.
You are whisked back to Stellenbosch where you overnight at Zevenwacht Estate, situated in the historic Bottelary Hills in Stellenbosch.
Day 5: Stellenbosch Day 5 of your Winelands tour kicks off with a cheese and wine tasting at Zevenwacht. There is no doubt you will be blown away by the Cape’s award-winning cheeses. You then head down the valley towards Middelvlei, where you are taken on a personal tour of the winery and round up your visit with a traditional Boere lunch with the Momberg family.
You then head for the delightful oak-bowered university town of Stellenbosch. Stay overnight at the Lanzerac Manor where you’ll have sundowners on the patio before dinner.
Day 6: Stellenbosch Start the day with a helicopter ride over the winelands, from this unique vantage point the pilot will point out some of the wineries to you.
Then it’s on to the House of JC le Roux, where some of South Africa’s most famous sparkling wines and Cap Classiques are made. Lunch is served at this ultra-modern winery, followed by an afternoon spent on a tractor-drawn trailor through Stellenbosch’s awe-inspiring vineyards, whilst sipping a glass of bubbly.
A special treat awaits you for dinner this evening - a tutored wine-and-food pairing dinner at Uitkyk Estate. Return to your hotel for the night.
Day 7: End of your Cape Winelands Tour You will be transferred by limousine to Cape Town International Airport.
