Explore the City of Cape Town Tours

The Company Gardens in Cape Town - a quiet spot in the middle of this lively city   A trip up Table Mountain in the Cable Car is a great way to explore the city from high up   The city streets of Cape Town are full of culture and colour

For a relatively small city, tucked under a mountain, Cape Town has a great deal to see and discover. Maybe it's all the history that has passed this Southern tip of Africa, the people who have left their mark or just the natural beauty of the place.

The earliest colonialists fortified their new foothold with the Cape of Good Hope Castle and planted their own vegetable garden to supply the Dutch East India Company ships that passed by.

The Company Gardens today are the peaceful green lung of Cape Town, perfect for strolls with the squirrels and home to the National Museum and National Gallery. The Castle too, still stands in the centre of modern Cape Town.

Apartheid's legacy can't be ignored when exploring the city, visit the District Six museum where you learn how apartheid’s laws affected everyday lives, and Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent many years.

The different cultures that reside in Cape Town have seeped into the fabric of the city. So to discover how Cape Town lives you need to feel the community spirit in the steep cobbled streets of the Muslim area of Bo-Kaap or be enthralled by the resilient human spirit with a tour of the vibey and chaotic townships and cape flats.

Of course, one of the reasons so many people have been attracted to Cape Town for so long is that it has undeniably beautiful surroundings.

A drive around the ocean-fringed edge of the Cape Peninsula will bombard you with beautiful vistas of the blue Atlantic, craggy fynbos-covered (Cape's unique, shrubby vegetation) mountains, secluded boulder-strewn coves and quaint cape fishing villages.

Of course, Cape Town's scenic character is dominated by Table Mountain and a trip to the top is the ultimate way to put all the city's landmarks into geographical context – from the historic heart of the city to the tip of Cape Point.
